The Van Gogh Museum is an internationally renowned museum with over 200 paintings by the famous Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, the largest collection in the world. It is situated at the Museumplein in Amsterdam, where you can also find the Stedelijk Museum (modern art) and the Rijksmuseum. Utrecht has a number of shopping areas which are spread out over the city. In the city center, close to the conference venue, one can find a vast majority of small shops with ample opportunity to buy presents or clothes. In the station area, at the border of the city center, a large shopping mall called Hoog Catharijne may be found. Here one finds many shops too. Those are typically bigger and they house establishments of large shops in The Netherlands. Groceries are also available, but usually somewhat outside of the city center, but still nearby. Opening hours are usuallly from 9 to 6, with some exceptions. Thursday evening, July 10th, shops are open until 9 or 10 o’clock. Sunday July 6th shops are opened, but they are closed on July 13th.
Alcmaeon, the social sciences student’s association, has made a shopping walk for you, which starts from the conference venue and shows you many of the small shops in the city center. It will be available at the registration desk in University Hall. Highly recommendable!
